Nepal is blessed with a vast array of exceptionally rich bird-life with more than 850 species. Hence, known as the paradise for bird-watchers. 

A diverse topography and climate has resulted in a variety of habitats within the country, which are home to over 8% of the World’s total bird population.

From the lowland jungle of the Terai and the Kosi Tappu barrage through dense rhododendron and Oak forest of the middle hills to the windswept plateaus of the high Himalaya there is always something to keep one mesmerised. 

Some of the destinations to go bird-watching are:

Kathmandu Valley: More than 500 species of birds have been recorded within the valley itself. Phulchowki danda in Godawari is the spot to watch the birds within the valley.

Shivapuri Watershed and Wildlife Reserve: Situated 11km to the North of Kathmandu, is a renowned sight for bird enthusiasts.  Blue magpies, kalij pheasants, Bonelli’s eagles, great Himalayan barbets  can be observed from the Nagarjun Royal Forest on Jamacho hill. 

Wetlands within valley: Banks of Manohara river & Bagmati river is habitat for waders and waterfowls. Taudaha (a lake) on the way to Dakshinkali attracts flocks of migrant birds.
